There is a large number of mechanisms that are available under the microscope such as the mechanical stage controls and the focusing controls which are usually fragile. If you handle the microscope in a bad way, then it will be damaged.
Make sure you store it in a dry place at all times. If there is a humid or moist environment, store the microscope in a waterproof container with the appropriate drying agent.
Avoid storing the microscope in direct sunlight as it will influence the quality of the specimen or the image when you are observing it.
After cleaning the microscope, make sure you have correctly positioned it by lining up with the 10x objective when storing it. Also, adjust the illumination and the under the 40x and then 100x.
